Journal 5.0: Awareness Campaign

The natural air purification project, was initially with the idea of selling plants to our guests in the coming school fest. But at the eleventh hour, we decided upon keeping an awareness campaign instead. We thought we'll begin with placing plants around our DP-block (including teacher's cabins) and later taking that step of selling them to the parents. For this we created an Eco-club. Students interested are mostly from the slot who were in the food stall .
Once this idea kicked in, we made a new proposal and got it signed by the CAS and DP coordinator.

We researched about the benefits of plants as natural air purifiers. With all the information collected about plants, we got everybody together and designed attractive posters. Printouts conaining information about each plant (basically, the benefits) were taken.
This time not everyone seemed that very regarded, yet we took it forward with a little hope.

As parents started arriving, we split ourselves, went in pairs with the benefits sheet plus a remarks sheet and began explaining to parents. But before that we didn't forget to ask them if we could borrow five minutes of their time.

My talk went on like this: “In today's world, air pollution is a pressing issue, as we all know. We wouldn't realise now but we do not know what the bad quality of the air is doing to our health and how it would worsen it in the coming few years if we do not be aware and take care. On this note, I am going to introduce you to these certain special plants that purify the air. Currently, artificial air purifiers like, 'aero guard' are being sold at high costs (almost 15,000/-!). However, these plants, altogether, are sold at around 1400/-, only and they are better at this job. They absorb toxic chemicals and allergens like dust, so people with dust allergies or lung problems can benefit from them.
One such plant like Adiantum, absorbs radiation from computers and printers. This is something we require in the present generation as technology is developing and we use it frequently to make life easier!
Above all, they look beautiful when displayed in your home (they are all indoor plants).
For further details you can contact us on our email id. Thankyou.

Every parent filled in the remarks/feedback sheet and I was happy to know that they liked our presentation (we were very informative).

It was a great experience, as we got to learn about different names of plants and so much about what they can do. I developed the skill of interacting with people and sharing knowledge.
